  • Danny Faulkner is a young Earth creationist with actual scientific qualifications (astronomy) but like Jason Lisle he fails to comprehend how physics actually works. He did some actual research in astronomy relating to binary stars. Faulkner was a professor of astronomy and physics at an actual university (University of South Carolina) but he retired to work for the creationist and pseudoscience organization Answers in Genesis. Faulkner was an employee at the Institute for Creation Research where he put on a facade where he thought he was doing real research. He was previously the "Dean" of the Astro/Geophysics department at the ICR Graduate "School" where he was pretending to teach Astronomy and Physics.

  • It has been nearly twenty years since the previous review of the state of creation astronomy. Since then, much progress has occurred in developing a creation model of astronomy, and some of the recommendations of that earlier review have been carried out. Both the number of papers on astronomical topics published in the creation literature and their depth of coverage have increased tremendously. There has been less concern with criticism of evolutionary ideas as creationists have begun to develop their own models of astronomy. While emphasis on indicators of recent origin is not as great as it used to be, that continues to be a topic of discussion. The number of proposed solutions to the light travel time problem has doubled. New cosmologies have appeared. We have debated the interpretation of craters within the framework of six-day recent creation. The discovery of many extrasolar planets has shed light both on the difficulty of the naturalistic origin of planetary systems and the uniqueness of earth. Creationists are divided on the existence of dark matter and the cause of cosmological redshifts. I offer recommendations for future study.

  • Some astronomers look at the stars and planets through a telescope. Author Danny Faulkner views them through a biblical perspective in this unique book. Written for the well-read layman from high school through adult, Universe by Design explores and explains the historical development of this science, including current ideas in the field. From a creationist standpoint, Faulkner also addresses common misconceptions, difficulties, and critiques about relativity and cosmology. This book would be an excellent supplement to any home school curriculum. Includes: • Contributions of Ptolemy, Galileo, Brahe, Newton, Hubble, Einstein, and other famous scientists to the field of cosmology • Many diagrams and illustrations • Theories and facts on the origin and expansion of the universe • Thorough discussion of the big bang and the problems with it • Many examples and analogies to help understand concepts of cosmology God’s awesome power is reflected in every star and planet in the universe around us!

  • Astronomers and cosmologists largely accept the reality of dark matter and dark energy. However, many recent creationists oppose both dark matter and dark energy, though it is not clear why. I propose a review of the evidence for dark matter and dark energy, a survey of creationists’ responses to both, and recommendations of how we ought to view dark matter and dark energy. There are three lines of evidence for dark matter: Rotation curves of spiral galaxies Dispersion velocities of galaxy clusters Gravitational lensing of distant galaxies and quasars by closer galaxy clusters The evidence for dark matter goes back to 1933, but astronomers did not readily accept dark matter – it took decades. Once astronomers came to accept the reality of dark matter in the 1980s, invocation of dark matter in the origin and maintenance of galactic structure gradually came about. This was followed by the inclusion of dark matter into big bang cosmology by the late 1990s. Since gravity is thought to be the dominant force in cosmology, inclusion of dark matter into cosmological models originally was motivated by the desire to have more realistic models. However, dark matter soon became a free parameter that could be manipulated within the big bang model to resolve issues with the model. Meanwhile, in the 1990s, astronomers were using type Ia supernovae to extend the Hubble relation to great distances. The expectation was that gravitational deceleration would have resulted in an upward inflection...
